jeera rice is an Indian dish consist of cumin seeds and ghee. cumin seeds enhance the flavoured of rice. jeera helps in digestion of food. jeera rice is very easy to make. you can have this jeera rice with dal tadka. it goes well with dal tadka. we can make jeera rice with 2 different cooking which one is steaming method or second is boiling method. I like this combo of jeera rice and dal tadka with some achar.
JEERA RICE (BY ABSORPTION METHOD)
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 KG BASMATI RICE
- 150 GM GHEE
- 30GM WHOLE JEERA
- ONION
- SALT
METHOD:
- wash the thrice.it helps to remove dirt from the rice. drain the rice.
- heat ghee in a pan .add jeera into it when ghee is very hot.
- add sliced onion in jeera. saute well. add basmati rice and saute well in ghee for 5-6 minutes.
- add double the quantity of hot water. cook rice by the absorption method.
- you can garnish jeera rice with brown onion or coriander leaves.
DAL TADKA
INGREDIENTS:
- moong dal 2cup
- chana dal2 tbsp
- finely chopped garlic 1 tbsp
- finely chopped ginger 1tbsp
- asafoetida 1/2 tsp
- curry leaves 4-5
- green chilli 4
- tomato 1
- jeera 1 tbsp
- musturd seeds 1 tbsp
- turmeric 1tsp
- salt as per taste
- red chilly 1
- coriander leaves
METHOD:
- Wash the dal. soak the dal in water for 15 min.
- In a pressure cooker add dal 2cup of water. add salt and finely chopped tomato.
- Cook the dal in pressure cook on medium to low flame for around 2 whistles.
- Add ghee in a pan add jeera, mustard seeds, curry leaves, asafoetida let crack the jeera. then add green chillies and red chilly saute well.
- Add coriander leaves in tadka.
- Now add dal in tadka mix well.
- Garnish this dal tadka with coriander leaves .serve hot.
